Colin Weekes Biography

Colin Weekes founded Dove Productions over 2 decades ago. However it must be said Dove Productions was born years before as a teenager.

A graduate of the Centre for the Media Arts in New York in Television Production and Commercial Advertising, he is also a graduate from SAE Institute in London in Digital Film Making.

Colin is the winner of several local awards at the M&C fine Arts Awards and the St. Lucia Media Association for his work in the production of television commercials, music videos and documentaries. A daily morning show “Wake Up St. Lucia” where he conceptualized the events around the now popular Pine Hill Dairy Walk. He also served on the Jazz on the Square committee for fifteen yeras from its inception to where he was responsible for the PR and event promotions.

Whilst in the UK, Colin also embarked on several short film projects. The short film “Marcus” where he was part of the production team, even having a role in the film. The film MARCUS was also a nominee at the 11th annual BFM awards in London 2009. Another short film, “Shades of Summer” also saw him making use of his expertise as the Steadicam operator for which he is certified.

On his return, Colin conceptualized a Youth Film Festival along with Rise (St. Lucia) Inc. The Festival allows young people the opportunity to express themselves through film on various social issues and now in its seventh year. The festival has gain support from many international agencies, The Raindance Film Festival, The 72 hour Project, The Oktober Film Festival, The University of the West Indies, The Government of Saint Lucia and a number of Saint Lucian Businesses and Private individuals. The festival was nominated in 2014 at the St. Lucia Chamber of Commerce business awards as Idea of the Year and in 2016 the festival was re branded as the Caribbean Youth Film festival placing much emphasis on becoming a true Caribbean event. CYFF has been able to assemble filmmakers for a number of initiatives such as our Film Club, Independence Film Competition and Caribbean Expo 2017. He was given a lifetime achievement award in 2017 by the St. Lucia fashion committee and had the privilege to contribute poems to the book “Soring into Greatness.”

Colin is advocating the development of film as an economical vibrant Industry in St. Lucia with the Audio Visual Film Association (AVFA), an organization formed with two other local filmmakers. He has proposed film be part of the Jazz and Arts festival giving film tourism and the many other bi products of the industry a global platform. His advocacy for the industry has not gone unnoticed as he has lectured on Film Tourism for the Cultural Development Foundation and is assisting the Government of Saint Lucia with policies for a national film commission. In 2016 he coordinated a film exhibition for the Arts Village as part of the Jazz and Arts festival.  Currently, Colin continues to produce video productions for corporate establishments, documentaries, short films and provide training in filmmaking for the youth through his online youth network www.cut.net
